When Jacob became a student at High Road School in Danielson, CT, his mother, Tiffany, hoped the school could help with Jacob’s behavior and academics. After witnessing a remarkable turnaround in Jacob, it’s safe to say that this school has exceeded Tiffany’s expectations. Early Struggles After kindergarten, Jacob began to exhibit troubling behaviors. According to Tiffany, Jacob simply wanted no part of schoolwork, and he figured out an effective way to avoid it. Jacob became combative and aggressive – often resulting in him being sent home from school. “Jacob knew the end result [of his behaviors] and wanted that to [...]

Thank you, Mr. Gresh! It is easy to see why Mr. Gresh is our staff of the month. Every year High Road School invites families, students and staff to a Thanksgiving Feast. This year due to COVID-19 restrictions, the feast was enjoyed only by students and staff since visitors were not allowed. Baskets filled with goodies from Mr. Gresh’s life skills class were made and sent home for the families this year. The goodies included breads, cookies and even homemade cranberry sauce. On November 24, 2020, a grand feast was made possible with the cooking skills of our own Mr. [...]

Offering motivation, he encouraged students to be accountable for their actions, and to do the right thing. Panus [...]
As part of the transition program, students enrolled at Windham County in the 11th grade had informational student-guided tours at nearby colleges scheduled for this spring. Due to closures because of COVID-19, all in-person college tours have been canceled. Fortunately, many colleges have provided prospective students with virtual college tours which our school took advantage of. Technology has proven that opportunities are truly endless online. This past month visits were made to Eastern Connecticut State University and QVCC, Southern Connecticut State University and University of Hartford via ZOOM, an online video conferencing service. An advantage to these tours is that [...]

On Friday, February 28th, our students, along with students from our neighboring High Roads School, met at Yamato Steak House of Japan, a hibachi restaurant. Yum! The students ventured out of their comfort zones and tried new foods for the first time. They also met and interacted with new friends practicing the life skills and social skills taught in class. We are so proud at how well they represented themselves with such maturity! Learn more about our school today.
Our school met with three other surrounding High Roads schools for a day at Mystic Aquarium, a hands-on marine aquarium in Mystic, CT. While at the Aquarium, students were able to pet stingrays, and observe penguins, along with many other species of marine mammals, fish, invertebrates, and reptiles. They also watched the California Sea Lions show and experienced a 4D movie called “Being Dolphin." Learn more about our school today.
