Thunderbolt Academy held our First Annual Women's Empowerment Luncheon on March 29th. Mrs. Powell, one of our school social workers, did an amazing job putting together this powerful event for our Thunderbolt ladies. We invited three guest speakers: Judge Todd, Denise Powell and Janay Harden who each spoke words of encouragement and guidance to our female students. Mrs. Lugo directed a dance with two of our middle school students Zariah Bard and Briaisha Hunter. We also had poem readings by two of our Senior student government members, Alay'siah and Nylayah. Today we did egg races as one of our spirit weeks activities. All of the classes got to take a turn, then each winner did a championship round! Learn more about our school today.
Every Friday we have a field trip to Spirit Horse Ranch in American Canyon. The students are part of a program where they get to learn the whole process from caring for the horse, to riding the horse, and everything in between. the students are quickly learning the horses prefer a calm environment and are doing a great job making that happen. Children in the classroom learn in a variety of different ways. However, catering to each child's preferred or necessary learning style can be not only difficult, but sometimes impossible in a classroom of over 20 students. Students who were on Step 4 for several weeks leading up to the big North Bay Adventure camp trip enjoyed spending 3 entire days camping on the North East river with staff members. Students enjoyed things like hiking, zip lining, the big swing, beach volleyball, and more. They were joined by the High Road School of Baltimore and High Road School of Harford County. The garden teaches students about nutrition, stewardship of the earth, collaboration of neighbors and more. Leiser is an occupational therapist at the Sierra School of San Diego, which focuses on special education and is located in San Carlos. She lives in North Park. The High Road School of Cecil County is hosting a car wash on April 29th at 11 AM to 3 PM. Students will be raising funds by hosting a car wash for $5 or any donation amount.
