Thomas’ Positive Presence

Thomas enrolled at HRA in September 2019, and he is currently in the 6th grade. Thomas expressed that he likes his teachers and that Art is his favorite class. Ms. Downie’s Dedication

Ms. Downie has worked as an Assistant Teacher in our 8th grade classroom since July 2019. She was recently promoted to the lead 8th grade teacher. Ms. Downie appreciates the personal and professional growth and learning opportunities at the school. Mrs. Harvey Is Always Willing To Help

Mrs. Harvey is a Reading Interventionist and provides reading support to HRA’s students who have particular difficulties with reading comprehension. Mrs. Harvey has been a member of the High Road family since September 2017, when she joined as an Assistant Teacher. Avery’s Goals In Life

Avery enrolled at HRA in March 2017, and she is currently in the 8th grade. Avery expressed that she likes the teachers at High Road, and especially enjoys reading instruction with Ms. Downie. “She is the best teacher because she is kind, jokes around, and understands my sarcasm,” Avery said of Ms. Downie. Ms. Fuentes has worked as our Administrative Assistant since March 2018. She is a reliable and dedicated staff member with a tremendous amount of compassion for others. What has Aubrey accomplished over the past month to achieve Student of the Month? Aubrey enrolled at HRA in September 2017, and she is currently in the 8th grade. Visiting Anne Arundel Community College

The graduating class of 2019-2020 attended a campus tour of Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) in Arnold, MD on September 25, 2019. Our school serves a number of Anne Arundel County students and this was a great opportunity to know what is available to them. The Disability Support Services (DSS) gave the group a presentation of the academic accommodations they provide to qualified students with disabilities. WOWD-LP Takoma Radio Field Trip

The 6th grade class of Ms. Davis, Ms. Hill, and Mr. Woodward of High Road Academy, Laurel went on a field trip to WOWD-LP 94.3 FM in Takoma Park, MD. WOWD-LP Takoma Radio is an independent community radio serving Takoma Park, College Park, and Hyattsville in Maryland with some parts of Northeast and Northwest DC. The radio station is an LPFM (low power FM) meaning it operates at 100 watts or less reaching a 5-mile radius listening area.
