During distance learning, our school developed an incentive program to reward students for their participation. Students earned raffled tickets throughout the 4th quarter for engaging in our distance learning program and we held a raffle at the end of the year. The student featured in this picture is Boris who is an 8th grader that excelled in distance learning and worked diligently to maintain engagement in spirit of the school closure. He attended Zoom sessions, completed packets and spoke to his teachers on the phone regularly! Boris won the grand prize in the raffle and was awarded a 32” Smart TV! [...]
Students who earn Blue status participate in off campus outings on Fridays. These outings include trips to parks, museums, factories and local events. In the month of February, Sierra School of Phoenix students and staff set a goal to work together on increasing the amount of time every student spends in class and increasing instructional time by reducing the amount of physical management incidents that occur over the month. After a careful review of monthly physical management data, students and staff determined that a 25% reduction in physical management would be a significant achievement worthy of a celebration. Kiara's constant positivity serves as a model for her peers. Everything she does is for the Sierra students. She always makes sure that her students are well served and that their needs come first. Kiara Lloyd, K-4 Oasis teacher, recently completed her graduate degree from Grand Canyon University, earning a Master’s in Education with an emphasis in special education. Engaging students in learning is key to them not only accessing academics, but also making meaningful improvements. Recently, our elementary students were fully engaged in a math lesson.
