Course Completed

Let’s all give a huge round of applause to CSD student Ethan for completing his APEX algebra class! Algebra has been a thorn in Ethan’s side for some time now and he’s finished. Ethan has been working tirelessly to complete and pass this credit recovery course throughout the year and now he doesn’t need to worry about math until his senior year next year. Here is a photo of the moment Ethan told Mr. James and Ms. Taylor the amazing news. In a time of virtual learning we are so glad we could share this moment with him. Go [...]

Daquan Is Making Strides

This month at KAP we want to give a special shout out to a long-term student DaQuan W. He has shown an amazing transformation this school year. DaQuan has recently brought up his grades and moved up two levels on the behavior management system in six days. Daquan has been going above and beyond and even earning bonus points for being helpful and avoiding crisis! We are so proud of all of our students at KAP and DaQuan has become a great role model for other students. The main reason that we have chosen him to highlight right now is [...]

A Letter from the Director

As we wrap up the first semester, students at KAP are focusing on what they need to do to round out a successful year. For some, it is catching up in a class or two that they have fallen behind in, as every assignment becomes more and more important as we approach the end of the year. With over half of our program being seniors, graduation is on the line and the buzz is about what exciting things are coming afterward! Others are completing their service learning hours out in the community, another piece of their graduation requirements. We have visits [...]

Senior Papers

Here at KAP we take pride in all that our students do, but this month we want to give an extra big shout out to our seniors. They come to school everyday and work hard to be role models for the younger students in our program to take the right path towards graduation. This month, we have had three seniors complete their senior paper. This paper was an argumentative essay and our students showed up! They chose very controversial topics such as violence in video games, gun control, and police brutality. We are proud of our seniors and look forward to [...]

Team Building across the Eastern Shore

On October 18th many of Maryland schools were closed for the Maryland State Education Association Conference (MSEA) in Ocean City. High Road Schools across the Eastern Shore took advantage of this day and took their learning and team building outside of the classroom. All staff came together to partake in team building activities and events. The group was separated into different teams and sent on a scavenger hunt around the area. Teams were able to work collaboratively together to accomplish goals and tasks and had some fun on the way. Teams also displayed some classroom spirit by dressing up and [...]

Community Bake Sale

The staff and students here at the Kent Alternative Program are working together with two community partners to give back! We will be taking a trip to our neighbors, the Worton Community Center to bake PINK goodies and treats to then sell to staff and students at the Kent County High School. The entire of proceeds from this event will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. What is the best part of this event? It was brought to life by one of our students who wanted to do something for Breast Cancer Awareness month! We here at KAP [...]
