In celebration of April’s World Autism Awareness Month, The Graham Academy brought autism awareness to the Wilkes-Barre community by recognizing individuals living with autism and those who care and support them. On Wednesday, Wilkes-Barre Mayor George Brown honored four The Graham Academy special needs students who joined the city hall staff for meetings and “assumed” leadership roles. Students at High Road School of the Quad Cities are gaining confidence, independence, and real-world skills through a unique partnership with New Kingdom Trailriders. Through weekly one-hour therapeutic horseback riding sessions, students with disabilities are learning more than just how to ride a horse, they're practicing focus, direction-following, motor skills, and emotional regulation.
