Septembers student of the month is Sergio Gonzales. Sergio is silver level, on one of the highest behavior levels. Sergio has worked very hard to earn silver level and improve his social interaction skills and anger management. Sergio has been a student with High Road Upper for just under 3 years, and came to us with severe behaviors. Presently, Sergio completes assignments, volunteers in class, is friendly with his peers and staff, and is very respectful to others. Money, Money, Money!

High Road of Hartford High runs on token economy which translates to students earning school money based on their color level for the day. This system is a way to encourage students to complete their assignments and acts as an incentive for increased positive behaviors. We at the Hartford High Road High School pride ourselves on our amazing team of professionals! We have excellent support from Mrs. Mele, our Occupational Therapist and Mrs. Canty our Speech and Language Pathologist. Mrs. Canty works with our students both in the school setting and out in the community. She took advantage of our trip to Flamig Farm in Simsbury to work with our students in a new and fun setting. A Math Escape Room

Recently the High Road School at Margaret Brent Middle School had a fun filled Thursday. The students were looking forward to participating in the activities. For the morning Math rotation, the students completed a Math escape room. The students were divided into two teams for the activity. Olivia, Cody and John were on one team while Taylor and Timmy were on another team. What has Gabriel done over the past month to achieve Student of the Month? Gabe recently came into the High Road classroom as an 8th grader. Gabe has meet and exceed all goals set for him this year. Staff of the Month: Joanna

Joanna Doberstein has been awarded the staff of the month for September. Joanna is the teacher in the B.E.S.T. classroom. Entering just her second year as the teacher in that classroom, Joanna has done an amazing job creating a positive classroom culture. Working with our ASD population, including some non-verbal and aggressive students, most would agree that Joanna has one of the toughest jobs in the building. Student of the Month: Sumarie

The student of the month for September was awarded to Sumarie Velez. Sue is a senior this year and just started her third year at the High Road Program at Ferguson. The overwhelming consensus among the staff who voted was that Sue has dramatically increased her level of participation to start the year. Sue has had an extremely positive attitude on most days which is helping to keep her motivated and on task throughout the day.
