Northwest Center for Autism Celebrates Dolly Day

Staff and students at Northwest Center for Autism at High Road School celebrated Dolly Day with pink boots and sparkles. The Sept. 25 event honored the life and legacy of singer, actress, philanthropist, and reading advocate Dolly Parton.
Held on 9/25 as a nod to Parton’s classic hit and movie 9 to 5, Dolly Day celebrations recognized her legacy. The celebrations highlighted her music and commitment to inclusion and kindness.
Dolly Day Joins a Fab Friday Celebration
At Northwest Center for Autism at High Road School, the day became part of the school’s regular “Fab Friday” festivities.
Staff started the morning with a “Cup of Ambition” coffee bar. Students arrived in Dolly-inspired country and western attire. The celebration continued with a Dolly-themed Fab Friday party in the cafeteria. Students enjoyed coloring activities, pink lemonade, popcorn, music, and dancing.
Creating Fun and Engaging Experiences
“The themed day reflects the fun, creative, and engaging experiences that help make our school a special place,” said Kimberly VerVooren. VerVooren is director of Northwest Center for Autism at High Road School.
“Fab Fridays give us another way to bring everyone together and create opportunities for students to connect and participate as part of the school community.”
The school uses events such as Fab Friday to encourage student participation and strengthen relationships between students and staff. These experiences also help build a positive school community beyond the classroom.
