International Dot Day at High Road Schools of Connecticut

Students at High Road Schools of Connecticut recently celebrated International Dot Day with activities centered on creativity, confidence, and self-expression.

A Story About Starting Small

The festivities began with a read-aloud of The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. The picture book inspired International Dot Day. The story follows Vashti, a student who believes she cannot draw. A teacher encourages her to begin with a single dot.

That small start helps Vashti discover her creativity and build confidence in her abilities. Students discussed the story and reflected on times when they may have doubted their own abilities. They also considered how encouragement can help them try something new.

Turning Dots Into Creative Art

After the read-aloud, students created their own dot-inspired artwork. Using paint, markers, collage materials, and their imaginations, students transformed simple dots into colorful, original designs. Each creation gave students an opportunity to express themselves and put their own spin on the activity.
