Joseph K. Takes the Next Step in Automotive Technology

High Road School of York senior Joseph K. has spent much of his school career building greater independence and preparing for life after graduation. He recently took an important step toward that future after being accepted into the York County School of Technology’s Automotive Technology Flex Program.
Joseph has attended High Road since fifth grade, giving staff the opportunity to watch him grow academically and personally over the years. His acceptance into the competitive Flex Program reflects the effort he has put into his education and personal development.
Building Skills for the Future
Joseph qualified for the program based on his academic performance, behavior, and commitment to school. Staff have seen meaningful growth in his ability to accept accountability and communicate effectively.
Through the Flex Program, Joseph splits his time between High Road School of York and York County School of Technology. There, he is gaining hands-on experience in Automotive Technology while working toward industry certifications that can support his plans after graduation.
Joseph has had an interest in cars for years. He has worked alongside his grandfather racing, rebuilding, tuning, and maintaining dragsters. On many weekends, Joseph can be found at the races or in the shop gaining practical experience.
Learning Through Hands-On Automotive Technology
The program gives Joseph an opportunity to explore an area that already interests him while he is still in high school. He attends the Flex Program in the afternoon and is learning the fundamentals needed to service, diagnose, and repair vehicles.
The curriculum prepares students for entry-level employment and aligns with industry standards. Students can also work toward state inspection and emissions licenses while developing practical automotive skills.
Growth at High Road School of York
Staff have noticed that Joseph’s experience in the program is also influencing his work at High Road. He continues to perform well academically and has shown increased motivation as graduation approaches.
Joseph’s success also gives other students an example of how career and technical education can connect classroom effort with future opportunities. His experience shows how dedication at school can help open doors to programs that match a student’s interests and goals.
High Road School of York supports students through individualized instruction, small class sizes, and specialized services. These supports help students build the academic, social, and personal skills needed for success in school and beyond.
