Excel Academy of Southwest recently hosted its Denim & Pearls Women’s Brunch to celebrate the contributions of women throughout history. The event honored the achievements, strength, and resilience of women past and present. It brought students together in a space centered on empowerment, sisterhood, and inspiration.

Building Confidence and Sisterhood

Staff welcomed each student with a tiara and pearls, symbolizing her worth, beauty, and power. During the brunch, students took part in activities designed to build confidence and support personal growth.

Guest Speaker Inspires Students

Guest speaker and local beauty professional Jumoke Tillman-Howell shared her personal journey and offered words of encouragement. A graduate of Central State University, a HBCU, and a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., Tillman-Howell encouraged young women to embrace their identities, overcome challenges, and pursue their goals with confidence and determination.

“From sharing affirmations to creating keepsakes and participating in thoughtful discussions crafted to uplift them and reinforce their value, voice, and potential, the brunch created a memorable experience where they felt seen, supported, and inspired to step boldly into their purpose,” said Lori Hicks-Vega , director of student services.
