A Sweet Spin on Speech and Occupational Therapy

At B.E.S.T. Academy, learning often looks a lot like fun! This fall, students participated in a festive Speech and Occupational Therapy group that combined creativity, teamwork, and a sweet seasonal twist.

In small groups, students followed a colorful visual recipe to create their very own edible spider donuts, a spooky snack designed to make learning engaging and hands-on. As they crafted their donut designs with toppings, students practiced a variety of important skills, including fine motor control, visual attention, coordination, and utensil use.

Encouraging Teamwork and Communication

Meanwhile, each step of the activity encouraged growth in language comprehension, sequencing, and vocabulary, turning every sprinkle and gummy leg into a fun opportunity for learning. Laughter and collaboration filled the room as students communicated, followed instructions, and admired one another’s donut designs.

These interactive therapy sessions showcase how B.E.S.T. Academy blends skill development with creativity, helping students gain confidence while connecting with peers in an inclusive and supportive setting.
