Excel Academy of Englewood recently hosted its first schoolwide Autism Awareness Month event, bringing students and staff together for an experience centered on inclusion and support. The event showcased artwork created by both students and staff, including colorful puzzle pieces that symbolized autism awareness and celebrated what makes each learner unique.

Celebrating Inclusion Through Student Expression

Hallways and classrooms were filled with vibrant displays that reflected personal expression and a shared sense of understanding. Every art piece told its own story and reinforced the idea that each student plays an important role in shaping the school’s culture and community.

Autism Awareness Month in Action

“The event sparked important conversations around inclusion and acceptance,” said Bryson Lenon, director of Excel Academy of Englewood. ”It served as a reminder of our ongoing commitment to creating a supportive.”

By hosting this event, the school continues to strengthen its mission of fostering an inclusive school community that celebrates diversity and promotes a true sense of belonging for all learners.

Building Connection and Community

Many of the school’s teachers and students have relatives with autism, and this event gave them an opportunity to celebrate those connections.

As the event unfolded, students shared how connected they felt, expressing that they felt truly seen and heard.

“As the final puzzle pieces came together, so did our community, each piece representing a story, a voice, and a heart,” said Lenon. “At Excel Englewood, we all truly belong.”
