Transition Students Treat Shelter Pups for Valentine’s Day

Transition Students Bake Valentine’s Treats for Shelter Pups
B.E.S.T. Academy’s 18+ classroom smelled just a little sweeter recently as students transformed the space into a bakery. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, students baked heart-shaped treats for dogs at the local animal shelter.
From measuring ingredients to sealing heart-themed bags, students took charge while practicing real-world skills. The best part? Knowing their hard work would bring tail wags and happy hearts to shelter pups waiting for their forever homes. This sweet project delivered more than dog biscuits.
“This fun activity helped our students practice teamwork, following recipes, and completing tasks independently,” said Jennifer Johnson, regional director, B.E.S.T. Academy and High Road Schools of Connecticut.
Taste-Testers Helped the Students Celebrate
Before the treats were delivered to the shelter, a few lucky taste-testers got first dibs, with several staff members volunteering their dogs to try the student-made biscuits.
Supporting Shelter Pups Waiting for Forever Homes
“Our hope is that when people come to visit, this will be a great way to have an amazing first meeting and hopefully an adoption,” said Johnson. “We also suggested that the treats be given to adopted shelter pups for their new adventure.”
