Student Spotlight Highlights Cameron’s Strong Start

When Cameron B. returned to High Road School of Wallingford for eighth grade this fall, staff noticed a change. He came back ready to work and showed greater maturity when handling challenging moments.

Cameron also began reaching the school’s highest step level more consistently. That progress recently earned him recognition as the school’s September Student of the Month.

Growth in Attendance, Academics and Self-Regulation

Cameron first enrolled at High Road midway through sixth grade as a diagnostic student. At the time, inconsistent attendance made it difficult for him to fully engage in school. He also sometimes responded to frustration with physical aggression.

Since then, Cameron has made significant strides in both areas. This school year, his attendance has improved, and he is completing his schoolwork more consistently.

Staff have also seen Cameron use coping strategies to manage his emotions. In addition, he is communicating more openly about how he is feeling.

Leadership and Positive Relationships

Those changes are showing up in Cameron’s relationships with others as well. In nominating him for Student of the Month, staff described him as compassionate toward classmates and teachers.

They also noted his growing leadership and his role as a positive example in the classroom. His progress reflects the effort he has put into building stronger habits and making positive choices throughout the school day.

New Experiences Reflect Continued Progress

Cameron’s growth has also opened the door to new experiences. He recently earned the opportunity to attend an apple orchard field trip, his first school field trip since enrolling at High Road. Staff noted that he participated successfully throughout the day and enjoyed being part of the experience with his classmates.

As Cameron continues eighth grade, staff are encouraging him to build on the habits and skills that have helped him find greater success at school.
