Celebrating History at Sierra School of Sacramento

Sierra School of Sacramento recently marked a month of learning and achievement, honoring the past while inspiring students to look toward the future.

During February, there was a school-wide tribute to Black History Month. Each classroom collaborated on research and presentations highlighting influential figures like Harriet Tubman, Malcolm X, Michael Jackson, and Tupac Shakur.

“By exploring these legacies, students gained a deeper understanding of the positive impact these individuals have had on society,” said Quenice Davis, director of Sierra School of Sacramento. “The project emphasized vital skills in writing and public speaking, with students displaying great effort through detailed poster boards and engaging presentations for school staff.”

The academic momentum continued with a two-week science intensive that culminated in the school’s first science fair. Students applied critical thinking to a variety of experiments, ranging from the states of matter to complex scientific demonstrations.

Davis said it was exciting to see the students’ hard work, creativity, and critical thinking skills on display as they presented their projects.

“The event allowed every student to shine in their own unique way, highlighting our commitment to fostering curiosity and confidence in learning,” she said.

Preparing Students for the Future

In addition to history and science, the month focused on preparing students for life beyond graduation through College Awareness Week.

The school hosted representatives from local community colleges, trade, and cosmetology schools. The day provided students with exposure to a variety of educational and career pathways. These sessions helped students visualize their future opportunities, reinforcing the school’s mission to prepare students for life after Sierra.

This series of events highlighted the talents of Sierra School of Sacramento students and the supportive community that encourages their growth.
