High Road Students Get a Taste of the Herr’s Snack Factory

Students from High Road School at Chester Community Charter School recently traded the classroom for the factory floor during a field trip to the Herr’s Snack Factory.
Exploring Herr’s Snack Factory
During the guided tour, students walked through the working factory and got an up-close look at how Herr’s snacks are produced. Along the way, they learned more about the company and the process behind making and seasoning some familiar snacks. The biggest hit came when students sampled warm potato chips fresh off the production line.
Practicing Skills Beyond the Classroom
The trip also gave students a chance to put skills they practice at school to use in a new setting. Throughout the visit, students followed expectations, interacted respectfully with others and adapted to a different environment. Staff were proud to see them represent High Road so well.
“Did you know that they blend the potatoes before they make them into chips? I would have thought that they cut them whole!,” said Ayeona, an eighth grader at High Road School at Chester Community Charter School.
The visit gave students an opportunity to spend time together outside of school while practicing the skills they work on each day. Their success throughout the trip was another example of how those skills carry over when students have opportunities to get out into the community.
