Sierra School of Sacramento Students Enjoy Global School Day of Play

Students at the Sierra School of Sacramento spent a day outside of the classroom on Global School Play Day, an initiative to encourage more unstructured play during the school day. Sierra hosts a special event annually on February 1 to mark the occasion.

The children and teens had fun playing with large board games, art stations, and enjoying their brand-new playground that includes slides, swings, climbers, activity panels, and a bounce house brought in specially for this day.

Outdoor play is essential to children’s development and provides a much-needed reprieve for students during the school day. After moving to a new location, the Sierra School of Sacramento lacked the outdoor play area desired by both students and staff. Fast forward to today, and the school’s campus now features a playground that inspires imagination, adventure, and learning.

Daily recess is even more popular with students now that they have a brand-new playground to enjoy. School administrators worked with Community Playgrounds, Inc. to design a safe play space that meets the needs of all Sierra students. The playground features a range of play elements, including slides, swings, climbers, and activity panels.

“We’re excited to have the playground open for students so they can play creatively during supervised, unstructured recess,” said Lisa Allmon, executive director. “Not only is the playground good for burning off excess energy, it provides another space for our students to practice important skills like sharing, socializing, and working as a team.”
