High Road School of Fairfield County students recently headed to Silverman’s Farm for a fall field trip.

During the visit, students explored the farm, interacted with animals and picked pumpkins. The outing also gave them a chance to practice skills they work on throughout the school day in a different setting.

Learning Beyond the Classroom at Silverman’s Farm

Students put the school’s CASE expectations (Considerate, Accountable, Safe and Engaged) into practice as they followed directions, waited their turns, and interacted with others around the farm. They also practiced communication and independence while navigating a busy community environment.

Building Confidence Through Community Experiences

“One of the things I love most about our program is being able to provide students with opportunities to learn and grow beyond the classroom walls,” said Operations Manager Victoria Williams. “Experiences like our trip to Silverman’s Farm allow our students to build confidence, strengthen their social skills, and enjoy being kids. It is so rewarding to see them participating in community experiences and supporting one another.”

Program Lead Ms. Marcelin said staff members enjoyed watching students take on a new experience and use skills they have been developing at school.

“Our students continue to amaze us with their growth and willingness to try new experiences,” Marcelin said. “It was wonderful to see them so excited and supportive of one another throughout the trip. Opportunities like this help our students build independence and confidence while reinforcing the skills we work on every day.”

Community outings are one way High Road School of Fairfield County helps students practice what they learn at school in real-world settings. At Silverman’s Farm, that meant navigating a new environment, spending time with classmates and staff and, of course, choosing the right pumpkin to bring home.
