Earth Day Community Cleanup in Chicago | Excel Academies

Students Lead the Way in Community Impact
Dozens of Excel Academies of Chicago students, staff, volunteers, and community partners came together across Chicago’s south side on Earth Day for the third annual Clean and Green Earth Day Community Cleanup. Hosted in honor of Joyce Chapman, the event brought participants into neighborhoods surrounding campuses in Roseland, Englewood, South Shore, and Marquette Park to support cleaner, safer community spaces.
A Tradition of Giving Back for Earth Day
This annual event reflects the power of collective action, giving students the opportunity to lead, give back, and take pride in their communities. Alongside dedicated volunteers and local partners, students worked to beautify shared spaces by removing litter, planting trees, and contributing to a healthier environment.
At Excel Academies of Chicago, experiences like these extend learning beyond the classroom. Students build responsibility, teamwork, and a deeper connection to the communities they are part of, reinforcing lessons that go far beyond academics.
