Homecoming Week Focuses on Cancer Awareness

High Road School of York students participated in a special Cancer Awareness activity during Homecoming Week, combining research, creativity, and compassion to make a meaningful impact. The goal was to help students better understand how awareness and education can support those affected by cancer.
Learning and Leading Through Awareness
Each class selected a specific type of cancer to study. Students worked together to research key facts about their chosen type, including prevention, signs, and the ribbon color associated with it. Using what they learned, they designed Cancer Awareness posters to display throughout the school, turning hallways into colorful reminders of care and community support.
Wearing Ribbon Colors with Pride
To make their efforts even more meaningful, students and staff wore the ribbon color representing the type of cancer their class researched. These colors symbolized unity and hope, sparking conversations and inspiring others to learn more about cancer awareness.
Building Empathy and Understanding
The activity not only increased awareness but also strengthened students’ sense of empathy and teamwork. By connecting research with real-world meaning, students learned that spreading awareness is one way to show kindness and make a difference in the lives of others.
