Camino Alto at Windham Public Schools Celebrates National Social Work Month

At Camino Alto at Windham Public Schools, National Social Work Month offers an opportunity to recognize the steady, day-to-day work that helps students feel supported, connected, and ready to learn.
Supporting Students During Social Work Month
That work is led by Delaney Card, program social worker, alongside Deana Tyler, regional director for High Road Schools of New England.
Ms. Card supports students across both elementary and middle school classrooms. She meets them where they are and responds to a wide range of needs. Her role includes individual counseling, social skills development, crisis support, and ongoing collaboration with families and outside providers.
She is a consistent presence throughout the school. She works closely with staff and students to help create a calm and supportive environment.
A Day Supporting Students Across Classrooms
Her schedule shifts throughout the day as student needs arise. She may begin in an elementary classroom. Then, she transitions to a middle school check-in. She may also meet with a student for counseling or connect with a family member. The pace can be demanding, but her focus remains the same. She helps students build the skills and confidence they need to engage with school and with each other.
Leadership and Systems That Support Students
Ms. Tyler reinforces that work through her leadership, helping ensure that social and emotional support is embedded into the broader school approach. Drawing on her background in social work, she focuses on building systems that support both students and staff while keeping equity and access at the center.
“Social workers bring a critical perspective to school communities,” said Ms. Tyler. “They help us understand what students need beyond academics and ensure we are creating environments where every student has the opportunity to succeed.”
For Ms. Card, the impact of the work is rooted in relationships.
“I love being a social worker in this role because I get to support students’ growth and form genuine and meaningful connections with them,” she said.
