Aleydis Earns Cardin Scholarship and Attends Bake On! Teen Summer Camp

Each year, the Michael Cardin Scholarship Fund recognizes deserving students for their perseverance and hard work, providing them with opportunities to pursue academic or enrichment activities during the summer. As a recipient of the Cardin Scholarship, Aleydis was able to attend the Bake On! Teen Summer Camp, an intensive pastry-focused culinary camp offered by the Baltimore Chef Shop.

Building on the Cardin Scholarship Experience

Aleydis described the camp as “very educational,” sharing that the instructors taught valuable skills such as how to measure accurately, cut properly, and handle ingredients with care. “It was an experience that I would like to have again,” she added.

The camp offered hands-on experience with advanced baking techniques through themed lessons and daily recipes, including quick breads, cakes, and pies. Aleydis’ favorite recipe was the cane syrup spice cake muffins, a treat she proudly mastered during the program.

After attending Bake On!, Aleydis shared that she now feels more confident and prepared for future cooking labs. She’s currently enrolled in a Food & Nutrition course at Mt. Hebron High School, where she continues to develop her passion for the culinary arts and refine her baking skills.
