Magic Milk, Lava Lamps and a Science Fair to Remember

Magic milk, lava lamps, and exciting experiments took center stage at High Road School of Hoffman Estates during a schoolwide science fair. Ms. Reed’s elementary students in Room 1 spent weeks preparing for the event, beginning in September. They explored the scientific method, developed hypotheses, designed experiments, and created colorful display boards to showcase their discoveries.
Young Scientists Take Center Stage
On the day of the science fair, Room 1 transformed into a busy science laboratory. Wearing white lab coats and protective safety eyewear, students welcomed visiting classes for more than an hour of live demonstrations. The young scientists proudly explained their experiments, shared their findings, and answered questions from classmates and staff.
Magic Milk, Lava Lamps and Explosive Experiments
The science fair featured a variety of colorful and exciting experiments. Students demonstrated the swirling colors of magic milk, homemade lava lamps, and the foaming reaction of elephant toothpaste. They also showcased the dramatic eruption created by combining Mentos and Diet Coke.
Each demonstration gave students an opportunity to share their knowledge, practice communication skills, and celebrate their hard work. Through curiosity, preparation, and hands-on learning, Room 1 created a memorable experience for the entire High Road School of Hoffman Estates community.
