Celebrating Student Success at Sierra School of Sacramento

Recognizing Student Success in Meaningful Ways
Sierra School of Sacramento students have had plenty to celebrate this fall. Pancakes, awards, and a trip to the Sacramento Zoo have all recognized their hard work and progress.
Students who completed their beginning-of-the-year Let’s Go Learn assessments were treated to an IHOP pancake breakfast. The celebration gave students something to look forward to while completing assessments that help staff understand their academic needs and plan instruction.
Grizzly Awards Celebrate Individual Progress
School staff also recognized students with Grizzly Awards based on individual accomplishments. Awards highlighted academic achievement, behavioral progress, leadership, and perfect attendance.
These celebrations give students opportunities to see how their daily efforts can lead to meaningful recognition. They also reinforce the idea that progress can look different for every student.
Field Trips Reward Positive Choices
Students have another incentive to work toward throughout the school year through off-campus experiences. Those who maintain Steps 3 and 4 in the school’s behavioral program can earn opportunities to participate in field trips.
One recent trip took students to the Sacramento Zoo. By connecting students’ day-to-day efforts with experiences they value, staff is reinforcing progress both inside and outside the classroom.
“We want our students to see that their hard work and positive choices are noticed and celebrated,” said Quenice Davis, school director. “Whether they are making progress academically, improving their behavior or stepping up as a leader, each accomplishment is something they can build on.”
