Grandparents breakfast brings Sierra School of Krum families together

Students at Sierra School of Krum welcomed some special guests to campus recently for a grandparents’ breakfast celebrating the family members who support them.
Bringing Sierra School of Krum Families Together
The gathering brought parents, grandparents, and other caregivers into the school to spend time with students, meet staff, and connect with one another during the opening weeks of the academic year. For the new campus, events like the breakfast also provide an opportunity to build relationships with families and create a strong school community.
Families Share Early Signs of Progress
Families shared some of the changes they have already seen in their children since the start of the school year.
“Ricky has really made some improvements at home since starting school and enjoys going back every day,” said Samantha Watkins, mother of third-grader Ricky Watkins, who earned the site’s first Student of the Month award. “I can really see the difference in his behavior and how he communicates already.”
Caregivers of older students shared similar experiences during the event.
“Ryder has been through a lot, and I am just happy to work with you all this year,” said Gretta Hill, grandmother and primary caregiver of fourth-grader Ryder Hughes. “He has really been calmer and happier this year.”
Grandparents Breakfast Helps Build School Community
Sierra School of Krum staff work closely with families to understand each student’s needs and support progress in the classroom and beyond. The grandparents breakfast was the first of several family events planned throughout the school year, giving families more opportunities to connect with the school community as the new campus grows.
