A World of Learning at High Road School at St. Mary’s County

Students and staff from the three IDC programs at High Road School at St. Mary’s County recently came together for an International Day celebration that highlighted learning and appreciating cultures from around the globe.
A World of Learning Through International Day
Hosted at the middle school program, the event brought together students’ work from elementary, middle and high school classrooms. Regional school leaders and district partners were invited to attend, giving students the opportunity to share their efforts with an audience and showcase what they had learned.
In preparation, students in each program selected a country to research, exploring its culture, traditions, and geography. They then brought their learning to life through artwork, poster boards, and presentations. The projects reflected both individual creativity and structured learning, with students engaging in research, organizing information, and communicating their ideas.
Building Confidence Through Creativity
While elementary and high school students could not attend in person, they still played an important role in the event. Students created videos of themselves presenting their projects, ensuring their voices and work were included.
The event supported the development of key academic and social skills, including research, communication, and confidence. Students were able to take ownership of their work and present it in a way that reflected their strengths, whether through visual displays, spoken presentations, or recorded videos.
Strengthening Connections Across Programs
International Day also strengthened connections across the IDC programs. By contributing to a shared event, students and staff experienced a sense of collaboration and continuity, even across different campuses and grade levels.
“International Day helped our students broaden their understanding of the world while giving them a chance to build confidence, share their learning and celebrate their creativity,” said Taylor Fritz, associate director, High Road School at St. Mary’s County. “I’m so proud of the work they put into their projects and of the enthusiasm they showed throughout the day.”
