Sierra School of Sonoma County Students Star in Play About Behavior and Choices

Elementary students at the Sierra School of Sonoma County recently took center stage in a play examining choices and behavior. The production, “Future Star: The Perils of Bad Choices and the Rewards of Positive Choices,” was student-driven. Originally the idea of a student with a passion for writing who personally saw the impact of making better choices, “Future Star” highlights young people making bad decisions, the consequences of those choices, and learning to make positive ones.

Over the last month, the elementary class, affectionately known as “Wild Things,” produced and worked hard to prepare for their debut performance. Faculty and students created props and sourced costumes with help from the local community. With staff, family, and attendees from the district in the audience, the students earned a standing ovation for the show.

Student actors received direction from teacher Ms. Mary and Ms. Eileen, a 1:1 aide. More than just a creative outlet, “Future Star” served as a reminder for students that they are able to write their own story, one positive choice at a time.
