San Diego Wave FC’s Kennedy Wesley Visits Sierra San Diego

San Diego Wave FC, an American professional women’s soccer team, defender Kennedy Wesley recently inspired students at Sierra San Diego during a visit filled with insights into the life of a pro athlete. Wesley shared her journey to professional soccer, her educational background, and her passion for working with the special education community.

Students prepared thoughtful questions, eager to learn about her path to professional sports, her school experience, and life on the field. Wesley answered each one with honesty and enthusiasm, then spent time signing player cards for students and staff, leaving a lasting impression on everyone.

Nicole Luster, M.A., associate director of Sierra School of San Diego, emphasized the value of events like this on campus: “These are important for our students for two reasons. First, any high school or transition-age student should have access to learning about different career paths in the community. Though becoming a professional athlete might be a larger-than-life goal, it gives students an opportunity to understand what it takes to reach that level. Secondly, building connections with community members like Kennedy helps us give back and opens doors to future collaborations, such as potential soccer clinics.”

Wesley’s visit was a powerful example of community engagement and motivation, encouraging Sierra San Diego students to dream big and work hard, whatever their goals may be.
