High Road School of Harford County Grand Opening Celebration

On September 18th, High Road School of Harford County marked a monumental milestone with its Grand Opening and Back to School Day Event.

Community Leaders and Partners Join the Event

The morning event, held from 11 AM to 1 PM, brought together a diverse group of community members, including representatives from Harford County Public Schools (HCPS), the Brighter Stronger Foundation, the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce, and Harford Community College, all joining in celebration of the school’s new chapter. Administrators from across the Mid-Atlantic region joined RVP Carrie Spies in supporting the opening of the new building. Also in attendance were SVP Milt Alexander, VP of People and Culture Emily Gaines, and President of SESI Dawn Thomas.

The event began with a warm welcome from Josh Strzegowski, the Regional Director, who shared a brief history of High Road School’s strong relationship with HCPS. He highlighted the collaborative efforts that have made the school such an essential part of the local community.

Next, Megan Avampato, HCPS Teacher Specialist, spoke passionately about the invaluable services High Road provides to students. She emphasized the appreciation HCPS has for the school’s mission and its continued impact. The ceremony was capped off with heartfelt remarks from Anthony Aiello, Program Director. He extended his gratitude to the dedicated school staff. He also commended their tireless commitment while focusing on the significant impact it has on the students and families they serve.

Ribbon Cutting and Student-Led School Tours

Following the opening ceremony, everyone moved outside for the ceremonial ribbon-cutting. This officially welcomed the community to the new school space. Afterwards, students eagerly took visitors on a guided tour of the new building, offering insights into their favorite areas of the school, from classrooms to common spaces. It was a proud moment for both the students and the guests, as it was clear that the students felt a strong sense of ownership and excitement about their learning environment.

The event concluded with a delicious lunch, catered by Bush Mill Tavern. This allowed guests and staff to mingle, share experiences, and connect. The camaraderie was palpable, and the atmosphere was filled with anticipation for the year ahead.

Back to School Day Welcomes Parents and Families

After the event wrapped up, High Road School shifted its focus to welcoming parents and families for our Back to School Day. Parents from all classrooms were invited to tour the new school building and meet with their children’s classroom staff. It was a heartwarming sight as parents walked through the halls with their children, proudly showing off their new school.

Brighter Stronger Foundation, a partner organization, also set up a resource table, providing valuable information to parents about additional support available for their children. It was a meaningful way to further support families and ensure students’ success both inside and outside of the classroom.

Building Strong Partnerships for Student Success

The Grand Opening and Back to School Day was a true celebration of community, collaboration, and progress. It was an event that highlighted the incredible partnership between High Road School, HCPS, and the broader Harford County community.

Overall, the future is bright for our students, and we are excited to continue our mission of providing a supportive and enriching environment for all who walk through our doors.

Here’s to an amazing school year ahead!
