High Road Academy of Howard County September 2025 Student Spotlight Aaron F.

This past July, Aaron had the opportunity to attend the Project Access Summer Institute, a college preparatory program held on the campus of Howard Community College. The four-week program is designed to facilitate the transition of high school students with disabilities into post-secondary education.
As an autistic student, Aaron participated and gained valuable experience preparing for college. Aaron shared that Project Access “was definitely beneficial because we learned a lot.” He noted that he particularly enjoyed the classes for writing, performing arts, and mental health, as well as the college prep course.
The program also helped to increase Aaron’s knowledge of the college admissions process, services available to students receiving academic accommodations, and his awareness of navigating a college schedule and college campus. After attending Project Access, Aaron stated, “I definitely feel more prepared for college.”
