College Tour Experience for Excel Students at Delaware State University

Excel Students Visit Delaware State University
Students from Excel Middle Years Academy recently took part in an inspiring college tour of Delaware State University. DSU is a privately governed, state-assisted, historically black land-grant research university in Dover, Delaware.
A Meaningful College Tour Experience for Students
Aatiqah Ali, the school’s student services coordinator and a proud Delaware State graduate, organized the visit. She shared her alma mater with the students while recounting her own experiences, including showing the students where she trained as an athlete and lived during her freshman year.
Students were actively engaged throughout the day, participating in friendly races and working out in the university’s athletic facilities, creating a dynamic and memorable experience.
“It’s essential for us as educators to introduce the concept of higher education early,” said Sadiqa D. Lucas, director, Excel Middle Years Academy. “I wish someone had guided me through these discussions in middle school.”
Building Early Awareness of Higher Education
The trip concluded with a family-style lunch that fostered a strong sense of community.
“This memorable trip created lasting memories for the students and also marked the beginning of a new tradition of visiting colleges regularly,” said Lucas.
