Excel Academy of Roseland Observes National Stop Bullying Day

In October, the Excel Academy of Roseland community observed National Stop Bullying Day, part of National Bullying Prevention Month, to help raise awareness and promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.

Students Take the Lead Through Anti-Bullying Skits

To mark the day, students and staff performed anti-bullying themed skits, including “How to Deal with Bullying” and “What Not to Do When Bullied.” A special luncheon brought students and staff together to reflect on respect and empathy.

Building Empathy and Respect in Every Student

Research shows that bullying increases the risk of depression, anxiety, and academic difficulties. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, one in every five students reports being bullied. Among students ages 12–18 who experience bullying at school, 21.6% say they were targeted online or via text.

“The goal of the day was to reinforce that bullying is unacceptable in any form and to empower our students and staff to create a safe, inclusive environment,” said Ashanti Brooks, operations manager, Excel Academy of Roseland. “We want every student to know they are valued, respected, and supported.”

Other important messages shared on National Stop Bullying Day included:

  • Stand strong.
  • Spread love.
  • No hate.
  • Smile Bright.
  • Respect others.
  • Choose Peace.
  • Respect Differences.
  • End cyberbullying.

Creating a Culture of Kindness at Excel Academy

The Excel Academy of Roseland, part of the Chicago Public Schools’ Options Network,  continues to foster a culture of kindness, teaching students the importance of empathy, standing up for others, and working together to make their school a safe place for everyone.

Excel Academy is an accelerated school of choice for students, ages 15-21 years old, who have fallen behind in their studies. Students can earn up to five credits per semester and 10 credits per year, allowing them to graduate in two and a half years or less.
