College Acceptances and Scholarships at Excel Academy Central

For students at Excel Academy Central, postsecondary success isn’t a distant goal. During a recent visit from a college admissions counselor, several students received on-the-spot acceptances and scholarship awards.

University of Mount Saint Vincent Visits Excel Academy Central

In November, a representative from the University of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York, visited Excel Academy Central to share information about the university, its academic programs, and student life. During the visit, students applied to the university, participated in one-on-one interviews, and received real-time feedback on their applications.

Five Students Earn $110,000 in Scholarships

By the end of the session, five Excel Academy Central students learned of their admission to the school and received a combined $110,000 in scholarships, pending completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Student Spotlight: London D.

London D., a February 2026 graduate, enrolled at Excel Academy Central after relocating to live with her grandmother in Philadelphia. Wanting a fresh start, London joined Excel after learning about the school from a family member who graduated from the school. She said developing patience was one of the most important skills she gained while at Excel.

London plans to pursue a career in the medical field and hopes to become a midwife, which made the University of Mount Saint Vincent’s nursing program particularly appealing. During her interview, London connected quickly with the admissions representative and described the experience as warm and welcoming. She shared the scholarship news with her grandmother and continues to explore postsecondary options as graduation approaches.

Student Spotlight: Honesty M.

Honesty M., also a February 2026 graduate, attended the presentation feeling nervous and uncertain about her academic standing. After experiencing significant personal challenges, including a serious family health situation, Honesty fell behind academically at her previous school. She enrolled at Excel Academy Central for its accelerated model and has since re-engaged in her education with renewed focus.

Honesty said she felt supported throughout the admissions process. Receiving both an acceptance and a scholarship offer was both unexpected and meaningful. She plans to pursue a degree in business and would like to attend school in New York to experience a new city.

Student Spotlight: Ajanay J.

Ajanay J. enrolled at Excel Academy Central after struggling academically at her previous high school and credits the staff with helping her rebuild confidence and academic momentum. She attended the Mount Saint Vincent presentation and said the interview process made college feel less intimidating and reinforced her belief in her ability to succeed in higher education.

Student Spotlight: Alaina S.

Alaina S. came to Excel Academy Central wanting an in-person, accelerated learning environment after struggling with online coursework. Since enrolling, she has benefited from strong relationships with her teachers and renewed academic focus. University of Mount Saint Vincent marked her first college acceptance, and the scholarship offer provided a sense of financial relief as Alaina and her family plan for her graduation in June 2026.

Building College Pathways Through Partnerships

The visit followed Excel Academy Central’s participation in the Career Council College Fair in the fall, where students connected with the Mount Saint Vincent admissions team and expressed interest in learning more about the university’s programs. That connection led to a deeper partnership and an on-campus visit tailored to Excel students.

Postsecondary Success Is Attainable

“The experience reinforced a powerful message for our school community – higher education is attainable, and Excel Academy Central students belong in college-level spaces,” said Anthony Trapani, transitions coordinator at Excel Academy Central.
