High Road School of Southern Delaware
High Road School of Southern Delaware decisively and compassionately bridges the gap in education for students who present with a range of unique challenges. Our staff follow the road map of a student’s Individual Education Program (IEP) to guide and track the academic and behavioral progress of our student body. Individualized programming is aided by such High Road School program tools as hand-tailored lesson plans, small class sizes, personalized attention, and positive reinforcement. All of these program components, and more, combine to create unlimited opportunities for our students to experience success at High Road School of Southern Delaware.

Scott Polleck – Director of Education
Scott Polleck is entering his ninth year with High Road Schools across sites located in Delaware and Maryland. He began his career in special education in 2011 as an Assistant Teacher, served four years as a Special Education Teacher in Cecil County, Maryland, and transitioned to Delaware to serve as the Director of Education for the, now, High Road School of Southern Delaware, High Road School of Sussex County, and In-District Partnership classrooms; Scott, with the support of other regional leadership, opened one site across Kent and Sussex Counties servicing students in 2015 and the team transitioned to servicing students in their home communities a few years later. Now overseeing four programs, including three In-District Partnership classrooms across both counties, Scott attended the University of Delaware where he achieved his Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and obtained his Master’s Degree of Education in Special Education and School Leadership from Wilmington University. In addition to supporting High Road Schools, Scott is a passionate husband, and father.

Since 2015, High Road School of Southern Delaware has been successfully meeting the countless needs of our students by delivering highly structured academic and behavioral instruction and social skills training and by building and nurturing healthy peer relationships. We hold our students to a high level of accountability for their own education and their behavior while simultaneously displaying empathy for their learning challenges and skillfully assessing each student’s particular strengths and weaknesses.
By focusing on key areas — academics, behavior modifications, support services, and transition / life planning services — we are able to meet the individual needs of all students through these varied approaches to instruction. Through collaboration with a student’s IEP team, we are able to choose the most appropriate learning model based on a given student’s present levels of performance, social capabilities, motor coordination, and ability to learn in a group setting.
Utilizing four specific instructional rotations, students are assessed academically, gain self-regulation skills, learn with district-aligned academic curriculums, and utilize integrated technology.
Throughout this school year, students have volunteered at Food Bank of Delaware, completed career readiness opportunities with the DVR-funded Future.Net, and participated in a men’s group alongside the DVR-funded Wise Guys. Students have also been accepted by Project Search to begin their post-secondary transition and participate in a yearly internship with DelDot. In the fall, high school students attended a Historically Black College (HBCU) job fair, toured a local trade school, and had first-hand experience with Delaware Technical Community College.
