Student Spotlight at Sierra School at Allen

Whether she is playing the xylophone, tickling the ivories on her “cat piano,” or singing Christmas carols, 12-year-old Bianca, affectionately known as “Queen B,” brings a distinct rhythm to Sierra School at Allen.

Bianca has attended the school for three years. Beyond her affinity for music, pink and purple are her favorite colors, and she often keeps her cozy purple blanket close by.

Her mother, Agata Lata, credits the staff’s dedication to Bianca’s growth. “We love the school and how [the] team takes such good care of her,” she said.

Bianca actively participates in small-group and whole-group lessons, which have helped strengthen her ability to engage in classroom activities. She continues to build social skills by interacting more appropriately with peers and regulating her emotions.

Academic Growth and Classroom Progress

In the classroom, Bianca is making strong academic progress. Her coursework includes calculating dollar amounts, recalling sequences of events, editing grammar, and grouping objects by shared characteristics. She continues to impress her teachers with her reading and writing skills. Additionally, her love of music supports her learning throughout the day.

Consistency and Communication Growth

Consistency has played a major role in her development; Bianca has worked with the same speech-language pathologist during her three years at Sierra.

“I’ve seen an increased willingness to engage in classroom activities and with learning materials. She has made obvious and measurable progress toward communication targets that were previously out of reach,” said Summer Farmer, lead speech-language pathologist for Allen ISD Special Services. “The staff have truly connected with her and provide consistency and compassion while they work with B to take steps forward every day.”

A Standout Student at Sierra School at Allen

Bianca lives up to her nickname. Her growth, resilience, and joyful spirit make her a standout student at Sierra School at Allen.

“Her dedication and determination shine through in everything she does, and she is excelling in all areas,” said Avis Hite, director of Sierra School at Allen. “We are incredibly proud of her hard work and look forward to seeing what the rest of the year holds.”
