November 2025 Student Spotlight: Jonah S.

Leadership and Dedication in Scouting

High Road Academy of Howard County is proud to spotlight Jonah S., a dedicated member of Boy Scouts (BSA) Troop 339 in Severna Park, who is making strides toward earning the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout – the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts of America.

Jonah has spent years demonstrating leadership, service, and commitment to Scouting values. Now, as part of the final requirement for the Eagle Scout rank, he is leading a community service project that reflects both initiative and heart.

Jonah’s Eagle Scout Project

Jonah chose to build a prayer box and a landscaped prayer garden, a project designed to benefit St. Martin’s in-the-Field Episcopal Church. This project involves coordinating volunteers, managing materials, and ensuring the project meets both community needs and Scouting standards. “It’s definitely about public service and the values you can learn,” expressed Jonah.

The Significance of the Eagle Scout Rank

The Eagle Scout rank is awarded to fewer than 6% of Scouts nationwide and is recognized as a mark of distinction by colleges, employers, and community leaders. It requires not only a major service project, but also a Board of Review, letters of recommendation, and years of active participation.

Jonah is expected to complete the final steps of the process this winter, with a Court of Honor ceremony to follow. As Jonah nears this milestone, HRA celebrates a young leader whose actions speak volumes – and whose future is just taking flight.
