Recognizing Excellence Through an Award Nomination

The Genoa Chamber of Commerce recently nominated Northwest Center for Autism at High Road School for an Excellence in Business award.

The awards program recognizes Chamber members who demonstrate success and growth, community involvement, leadership development, dedication to employees, and a strong commitment to those it serves.

According to the nomination, Northwest Center for Autism at High Road was selected because of its deep commitment to serving students and its innovative approach to teaching life skills.

“This nomination is a celebration of our team’s passion and commitment to making a positive impact,” said Kim Ver Vooren, school director.

Supporting Students Through Specialized Autism Education

Northwest Center for Autism at High Road School is a specialized private therapeutic day school. The school serves students ages 3–22 with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental or educational needs. The school provides individualized, student-centered programs in small classroom settings designed to support each learner’s academic, behavioral, and social development.

Students benefit from evidence-based supports, including Applied Behavior Analysis, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and structured social skills instruction.

Preparing Students for Independence Beyond the Classroom

The program also emphasizes transition planning and daily living skills that help students build independence and confidence beyond the classroom. By combining academic instruction with practical life skills, the school prepares students for greater independence. This is both at home and in their communities and in future educational or vocational settings.
