Fairfield County Student Poetry Program Takes the Stage

Student Creativity in the High Road School of Fairfield County Poetry Program
Middle school students at High Road School of Fairfield County recently wrapped up an inspiring poetry unit led by teacher Ms. Erinn, and the results were nothing short of exceptional.
Students explored a variety of poetic forms, practiced using imagery and emotion, and discovered the power of their own voices on the page. Each student created an original poem that reflected their unique perspective, choosing their own topics, crafting titles, and conducting research with support. Their creativity, vulnerability, and willingness to try something new truly shined.
A Student Poetry Showcase Builds Confidence and Community
The highlight of the unit came when students presented their poems in front of the class. With courage and confidence, each student shared their work aloud, transforming the classroom into a mini poetry showcase. Peers listened attentively, applauded one another, and celebrated the many ways poetry can tell a story.
Encouraging Student Voice Through the Poetry Program
Ms. Erinn’s guidance helped students see that poetry isn’t just something found in books, it’s something they can create, perform, and be proud of.
“It’s inspiring to see our students discover their voices through poetry,” said Victoria Williams, assistant school director. “Their willingness to share their work with others truly embody the spirit of learning at High Road School.”
