A Joint Effort Between High Road and West Street Schools

The High Road School at Southbridge and West Street School, part of the Southbridge Public Schools and High Road partner, recently teamed up to host their first-ever joint Family Game Night. The event drew approximately 50 families, along with staff members from both schools.

“Family Game Night was inspired by the public school’s tradition of hosting family-oriented events,” said Miguelina Felix, M.Ed., M.S., operations manager at High Road School at Southbridge. “Last year, I organized a bingo night that became so popular it drew a line of families outside our classroom. Because of its success, we decided to bring it back this year as the main event, with support from our partners at West Street.”

Fun Activities for Every Family Member

While bingo was the main draw, families also enjoyed a variety of activities. This included jumbo Jenga, cornhole, Spanish Bananagrams, a bilingual Jeopardy game, and several versions of Connect 4 and Guess Who. Families rotated through game stations, collecting small prizes along the way. Additionally, a popcorn station added a tasty touch.

“Watching Lina and her team integrate into the greater West Street School community to bring families together for such a successful event was truly a pleasure,” said Ian Cassidy, regional director of schools.

Highlights and Big Winners of Family Game Night

The main bingo event featured two special prizes: a large plushie for the full-card winner and a $100 gift card for the “X” pattern winner. Notably, both top prizes went home with a High Road student and parent, who were thrilled with their victory.

“The energy in the room was incredible,” Felix said. “Everyone was cheering each other on, and it was wonderful to see our students and families enjoying themselves together outside the classroom.”

Building Stronger School and Family Connections

Beyond the games, the event strengthened ties between High Road and West Street staff, who worked closely to plan and host the evening. Given the enthusiasm and positive feedback, organizers plan to make Family Game Night an annual tradition.

“We’re already looking forward to the next Family Game Night,” said Felix. “It creates opportunities for low-stress socializing and positive interactions outside the traditional classroom environment, reinforcing our broader goals for student and family support.”
