376 Pounds of Food to Support Local Families

Inside the Excel Central Food Drive
The Excel Academy Central community got into the spirit of giving this season by participating in Preston & Steve’s “Camp Out for Hunger,” the annual food drive benefiting Philabundance, a leading hunger-relief organization in the region. As part of this effort, Excel Central, an Opportunity Network high school in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia, organized a school-wide canned food and nonperishable drive, collecting an impressive 376 pounds of food to support local families in need.
Community Engagement at Excel Central
Each year, Excel Central staff and students join the movement, recognized as the largest single-location food drive in the United States. The effort reflects both the school’s engagement in the community and the broader SESI network’s commitment to service. This year’s initiative also aligned with the school’s focus on meaningful, real-world learning experiences, giving students hands-on opportunities to understand the impact of giving back.
Leadership and Compassion in Action
“Our students continue to demonstrate exceptional leadership and compassion,” said Jarrad Muller, executive director, Excel Central. “Their willingness to step up, contribute, and support families across Philadelphia reflects the core values of our school.”
Food to support local Families Across Philadelphia
Contributions from students, staff, and families will help provide nutritious meals to individuals and families experiencing hardship across the Greater Philadelphia area.
“Excel Central remains committed to fostering a culture of service, collaboration, and community engagement, and looks forward to continued involvement in efforts that uplift and support those in need,” said Muller.
