Glynn County School of Scholars kicked off World Autism Month with its event, “Pieces of Hope: Mural & Art for Autism Awareness.” In partnership with Light of Hope Learning Center, an Applied Behavior Analysis therapy center, staff and students worked together to create a meaningful autism awareness mural, along with personalized, colorful puzzle pieces.

Each student painted a small canvas, and once assembled, the collective artwork read “Autism: We All Think Differently.” This mural symbolizes unity, diversity, and the importance of embracing different perspectives. Displayed near the school’s entrance, it serves as a warm welcome and testament to the school community’s commitment to inclusivity.

“We want students to understand the importance of kindness and inclusion,” said Toscca Madison, executive director of Glynn County School of Scholars.

“This experience helped them recognize that every person is unique and that small acts of kindness can make a big difference in fostering a supportive and accepting school environment.”

This marks the first partnership between the school and Light of Hope, a community resource providing essential services for children with autism. They saw this collaboration as a meaningful way to foster awareness, inclusivity, and support.

Students also participated in hands-on reading activities, designed to engage and educate, inspiring creativity and understanding in a supportive, interactive environment. Throughout the event, students learned how to be champions of kindness, particularly toward peers who may think or learn differently.
