In celebration of Women’s History Month, a time to honor women’s contributions to society, Excel Academy North students participated in engaging activities, including a door decorating contest.
Throughout March, they learned fascinating facts about women’s history in America, such as:
- Title IX was passed on March 1, 1972
- Women account for 60%of college graduates today
- Women make up 27%of Congress
- Until 1974, Women couldn’t get credit cards in their own names without a male co-signer
They also explored the achievements of notable women, including:
- Junko Tabei, the first woman to summit Mt. Everest
- Jane Addams, the first woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize
- Charlotte E. Ray, the first Black female U.S. lawyer
- Nellie Tayloe Ross, the first female U.S. governor
Additionally, staff came together for an appreciation luncheon to celebrate the achievements, resilience, and contributions of the women of Excel Academy North.
“The luncheon served as a reminder of the strength and impact of women in all walks of life,” said Kevin D. Marx, M.Ed., director of Excel Academy North.
