As the 2024–2025 school year came to a close, the High Road School of Marion County community proudly celebrated the graduation of two students in a ceremony filled with pride, support, and encouragement. Families, friends, district representatives, and staff gathered to recognize the achievements of Josh S. and Amick O., marking a meaningful milestone in their academic and personal journeys.
Celebrating Student Success at Graduation
The event featured speeches, certificates, and rounds of applause as the graduates prepared to take their next steps with confidence. Their success reflects both their individual hard work and the dedicated support of the High Road School team.

Josh is now thriving in an assisted adult living program where he is making new friends and building skills for independence. Amick is participating in a day program, enjoying time with his family, traveling, and looking forward to helping with the family’s vending machine business.
Families expressed joy and gratitude for the progress their children had made.
“Josh came a long way, and his family never gave up on him,” said Wendy Sanford, program director. “Once he was in the right setting, he faced challenges but ultimately succeeded. His family has considered us a source of support, and it’s been a privilege to walk this journey with him.”

Sanford added that Amick’s family was equally proud. “They were so happy that we followed through on the plans we set out for him. Seeing Amick participate fully in the graduation was a powerful moment for them,” she said.
For the school community, the graduation was a reminder of why the work is so meaningful.
“People often think we only deal with behavior challenges, but this is proof that our students are earning credits, graduating, and moving forward,” Sanford said. “I never want the tough days to win. Working through those challenges and seeing students cross that finish line is what keeps me going.”
Sanford hopes the ceremony sends a message of encouragement to current and future students. “It’s okay to be in a different environment if that’s what you need to reach your goals. Don’t give up! People will walk beside you every step of the way. My goal is to do whatever it takes to help students succeed.”
