High Road at Hamden IDC Student Spotlight: Mason

Ready to Learn and Lend a Hand
Third grader Mason has started the school year at High Road at Hamden IDC ready to learn and looking for ways to help his classmates.
A student in Ms. Fristachi’s class, Mason stands out for his positive approach to school. He takes an active role in lessons and is completing more of his work independently. He also looks out for his classmates, offering encouragement when someone is having a tough time or needs help staying on task.
“Mason came into this school year with an amazing mindset,” said Fristachi. “He is ready to learn each day, always willing to help the classroom and continues to try his best even when frustrated. Everyone in Room 4 is extremely proud of Mason’s accomplishments!”
Making Consistent Progress
Mason has maintained Step 4 each week since the beginning of the school year, a sign of how consistently he is meeting classroom expectations. It is also a big change from last year, when managing frustration could be difficult for him.
Now, Mason is better able to recognize when he needs a break and use strategies that help him work through frustration. Staff members have also noticed that he is more confident in class and increasingly proud of what he can accomplish.
Growing in Confidence and Independence
“What stands out to me most is the pride he is beginning to take in himself and his accomplishments,” said Operations Manager Katherine Betlej. “While Mason continues working through challenges, he is demonstrating greater resilience and independence each day. I am proud of how far he has come and excited to see him continue to grow.
