Birthday-in-a-Box Brings Kindness to High Road School of Hartford

Staff at High Road School of Hartford started the new school year by finding a creative way to make students’ birthdays a little more special. During back-to-school orientation, the team took time between training and classroom preparation to assemble Birthday-in-a-Box kits for students.

Everything Needed for a Birthday Celebration

The idea was to have everything on hand to help families celebrate a student’s birthday at home. Each kit included birthday cake mix, frosting, candles, decorations, plates, and napkins. Staff also added a handwritten card for the birthday child.

Staff even included a can of soda that can be used to prepare the cake mix. This eliminates the need for families to have additional ingredients such as eggs or oil on hand. With the Birthday-in-a-Box kits assembled and ready to go, families will have what they need for a simple birthday celebration.

Staff Working Together to Support Families

During orientation, staff members worked together to sort supplies, pack the boxes, and write notes for the students who will receive them throughout the school year. The activity gave the team an opportunity to do something together that directly supports students and families before classes even began.
