Rekiya’s Story: A Student with Big Goals

Rekiya, a determined teenager from Northside High School, has always dreamed of building a career in the military. Right here is a major base, Ft Benning. Like many students with high aspirations, her journey toward that goal was not without challenges.

At one point, Rekiya began to struggle in the traditional school environment. The pace and structure made it difficult for her to stay engaged, and over time, she began missing school. As her attendance declined, so did her grades. Eventually, Rekiya failed several courses and fell behind her grade level. She found herself in a difficult position, over-aged and under-credited, meaning she would not be able to graduate alongside her classmates.

The situation weighed heavily on her. Rekiya began to lose confidence in herself and her ability to reach her goals. What once seemed like a clear path toward graduation and a military career suddenly felt uncertain.

Finding a New Opportunity at Catapult Academy

But sometimes the right opportunity arrives at just the right time. Recognizing Rekiya’s potential, her school’s administrative team believed she simply needed a different environment to succeed. They referred her to Catapult Academy, a program designed to support students who may not thrive in traditional settings.

Catapult Academy offered exactly what Rekiya needed: a smaller, student-centered environment where learning was personalized and self-paced. The program allowed students to focus on earning the credits they needed while rebuilding confidence and academic skills.

Setting Goals and Taking the First Step

Rekiya decided to take the chance. After meeting with the Catapult Enrollment Team, a clear plan was developed. Goals were set, expectations were established, and Rekiya made a commitment to give the opportunity her best effort.

From that moment forward, Rekiya showed up. She attended school consistently and worked diligently to strengthen her reading and math skills. Determined to catch up, she set an ambitious goal: complete one course every month. But Rekiya didn’t just meet that goal, she exceeded it. Through focus, perseverance, and hard work, she began completing courses approximately every three weeks. Month after month, her progress continued. What once seemed impossible began to feel within reach.

Reaching Graduation and Looking Ahead

After months of consistent attendance, tremendous effort, and steady academic achievement, Rekiya accomplished something remarkable: she completed all of the credits she once lacked and successfully met the requirements for graduation.

Her journey didn’t stop there. Through the support of the Catapult Academy of Muscogee’s team and efforts led by Student Success Coordinator Carla Piett, Rekiya was connected with a military recruiter and had the opportunity to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery at Catapult Academy. She continues to prepare and work toward achieving even higher scores as she moves closer to her dream.

Today, Rekiya stands as an example of resilience, determination, and the power of a second chance. What began as a period of doubt and discouragement has turned into a story of perseverance and success.

Soon, Rekiya will proudly graduate from Northside High School in Columbus, Georgia. And shortly after, she will begin the next chapter of her journey, serving her country in one of the branches of the United States Armed Forces.

Rekiya’s story reminds us that success is not always about where you start—it’s about the determination to keep moving forward when opportunity knocks. And for Rekiya, the future is just beginning. 🎓
