During the visit, district guests met with staff, toured the campus, and observed classrooms. They also learned about plans for the remainder of the school year. As a special show of appreciation for their life skills, High Road students prepared and served lunch.

The students worked closely with staff members Devin Robinson, transition coordinator; Gary Rand, school director; and Felicia Carter, lead behavior support specialist of the High Road Lower School of Prince George’s County, in order to plan the event and gain hands-on experience in food preparation, presentation, and service.
A standout moment of the day was seeing students usher in guests, ensuring each district representative felt welcomed throughout the experience.

The student-catered menu featured sandwiches, chips, and a dessert bar with Rice Krispies treats and pudding, to name a few. Beyond the food, the luncheon provided a meaningful opportunity for students to practice their hospitality skills in a real-world setting, exemplifying responsibility, teamwork, and professionalism. The success of the event was a reflection of the students’ pride in their work.
“This event was designed for students to support our school community, and it truly highlighted how they’re growing in skills and in confidence, taking responsibility and showing appreciation,” said Rand. “We’re proud of the luncheon’s success and that we were able to show district partners gratitude for their support.”
