Strong School Partnerships at Southbridge Academy

Why School Partnerships Matter at Southbridge Academy
Student success at Southbridge Academy does not happen in isolation. It is the result of intentional, ongoing partnerships between the school, families, and the district. These longstanding partnerships are built on trust and a shared commitment to help students thrive.
A Critical In-District Program for Higher Needs
From the district’s perspective, Southbridge Academy plays a critical role within the broader continuum of services for students with higher needs. As an in-district option, the program allows students to remain connected to their school community while receiving personalized instruction and targeted social-emotional supports.
District Leaders See Meaningful Growth
“Southbridge Academy has been a game-changer for our district,” said Karen Giangregorio, director of student services, Southbridge Public Schools, who has spent more than four decades in special education. “Families feel supported, students are treated with dignity, and we’re seeing real growth.”
Giangregorio said that the program fills a critical gap by offering a structured, supportive alternative within the district, one that has been so effective that available seats fill quickly.
How Collaboration Supports Student Success
At the heart of Southbridge Academy’s success is strong, consistent collaboration. Monthly meetings, frequent communication, and clearly defined processes ensure alignment among school leaders, district partners, and families.
“Everyone is working toward the same goal, meeting the needs of families and their children,” Giangregorio said.
Families Feel Supported, and Students Thrive
Families feel the impact of that partnership every day. Parents describe a school environment where staff are patient and deeply committed to student growth. Many share that their children are earning better grades, developing confidence, and rediscovering a love of learning. Students who once struggled with attendance are now excited to go to school and think about life after high school.
Outcomes That Extend Beyond the Classroom
For some students, the benefits extend well beyond the classroom. Families point to improved behavior, stronger peer relationships, job readiness skills, and increased independence. These outcomes reflect Southbridge Academy’s focus on the whole child, supporting academic progress while also building social-emotional skills that last.
At its core, Southbridge Academy succeeds because of partnership and students benefit.
