The Sierra School of San Joaquin recently hosted its first-ever Passport Week, giving students, staff, and families the chance to explore cultures from around the world. Planning the event was a group effort among the school community.

Students in grades 3 through 12 participated, transforming the school into a global adventure. Each class selected a country to represent, while the hallways and conference room featured decorations that brought the destinations to life. Featured countries included Japan, Mexico, Spain, Jamaica, Antarctica, Sweden, and Egypt.

How Students Experienced Passport Week Activities

The experience began with passport books, as participants rotated through classroom destinations and collected stamps at each stop. Each classroom offered themed activities, presentations, videos, and culturally inspired snacks, creating an interactive experience that combined learning and fun.

Project-Based Learning During Sierra School of San Joaquin Passport Week

“Passport Week allowed our students to explore cultures and practice teamwork, presentation skills, and curiosity in a fun and engaging way,” said Aunyia Ames, program director at Sierra School of San Joaquin. “The event incorporated real-world experiences into daily lessons through project-based learning, connecting classroom concepts to global awareness.”

Family and Community Involvement

Parents and staff were invited to tour the classrooms and see the student projects.

“The event was a learning adventure,” Ames said. “Due to its popularity, Passport Week will return this spring, promising another enriching and fun experience for our school community.”
